Work in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a country in Southeast Europe, situated on the eastern flank of the Balkans, bordered by the Black Sea to the east. Sofia (capital), Plovdiv, Varna, and Burgas are the main economic, cultural, and administrative centers. Bulgaria has an open, upper-middle-income range market economy where the private sector accounts for more than 80 percent of GDP. Key sectors include IT, tourism, and manufacturing. It has been a member of the European Union since 2007. Non-EU citizens must obtain a work permit and a long-stay "Type D" visa to be legally employed in Bulgaria. The process is initiated by the Bulgarian employer.

OZO International provides end-to-end assistance in securing work permits and residence, backed by confirmed job offers from Bulgarian employers.

Bulgaria Work & Residence Permit Process

Follow these essential steps to secure your Bulgarian work and residence permit and begin your professional journey in the European Union.

1. Job Offer & Work Permit Application

Secure a job offer. Your Bulgarian employer then applies for a work permit on your behalf from the National Employment Agency.

2. Work Permit Approval

Once the necessary checks are completed and documents are verified, the National Employment Agency issues the work permit.

3. Long-Stay (Type D) Visa Application

With the approved work permit, you must apply for a Type D visa at the nearest Bulgarian embassy or consulate in your country of residence.

4. Travel to Bulgaria

After your D visa is granted, you can travel to Bulgaria to complete the final steps of your residency process.

5. Residence Permit Application

Upon arrival, you must apply for a Bulgarian residence permit at the local Migration Directorate office within 14 days.

6. Start Your Job

Once your residence permit is issued, you are legally able to commence work. OZO International will support you throughout.
